My Own Story
As for my own physical questions, I had plenty of those! Bone pain, fatigue, night sweats and extreme weight loss were not “normal” for an eighteen-year-old, nor were they signs of immortality. That was the year that I was diagnosed with malignant lymphoma! Lymphoma, closely related to leukemia, is a type of bone marrow and blood cancer that caused all of the adult questions to spill out! Was there a cure? Was I going to die? And if I did die…then what would happen???? Thanks to my family’s quick action, hard work and resolve, I received aggressive cancer treatment in the form of heavy chemotherapy on the medical side and frequent chiropractic adjustments with a total dietary makeover from my family chiropractor.
Health of course, became extremely important to me and it was during my own cancer recovery time that I chose chiropractic as a professional career path. My parents and grandparents had been long time chiropractic patients and it was their direct help and encouragement that allowed me to pursue chiropractic as a career. Even now after thirty plus years, the nausea, fatigue, bone pain, weight loss and the feel of chemotherapy treatments are still extremely vivid memories to me. God had a very specific plan for my life. He allowed me not only life itself, but also a career as a chiropractic physician! I am truly a walking chiropractic story!
As I certainly found out, nothing in this world will get your attention like a health crisis!! Absolutely nothing!!!! Well get my attention it did, and in a pragmatic “first things first” manner, I wanted to attend to eternal matters because, well,...... eternity matters! In fact as I’m now fond of saying, healthy or not, “nobody gets out alive”. Fortunately, just a few years prior to my terrifying lymphoma-cancer diagnosis I had already attended to The “eternal matter” of my soul. As a younger boy I had personally accepted the Jesus of the Bible into my life! And it was during this cancer period of my life that I came to a full knowledge of that earlier decision and I put my complete faith in that same Jesus! I then understood, that should this disease process destroy my physical body, the matter of my eternal destiny had already been settled. It had been settled on The Cross of Calvary, through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus. Knowing that, by the way, gave me great clarity and focus in unlocking the healing powers within my own body.
Clinical Goals
Whole health chiropractic for a whole lifetime! That is my goal for practice. Assisting and improving the health of others through the tools, training and knowledge of my chiropractic discipline! Our bodies are designed by God in a phenomenal way and are incredibly resilient and very responsive to structural alignment, nutrition and exercise. I encourage others to create good body mechanics, eat right and keep “those parts” moving!! A key value that I have always tried to apply to my practice is to treat people exactly like I would expect my family to be treated at another doctor’s office.
Personal Lifestyle & Outside Interests
My wife and daughter treat me like a chiropractic ATM machine, going not even a few days without requesting “an adjustment” from doctor “Dad”. I myself receive treatments from a chiropractic doctor friend in town, who adjusts me at least twice a month. Family, outdoors and California’s Central Coast make up most of my outside interests.
Our home kitchen, thanks to my “beyond belief” wife, is a fantastic smelling fresh, whole food kind of enclave and a veritable fresh food feast every time we sit down. It’s all kinds of good, whole and simple but incredibly tasty foods. Real butter, olive oil, cloves of this and herbs of that, fresh this and organic that, plopped in a crock-pot or cooked on the spot. Sometimes we leave the house and “magic” somehow happens from the simple something or other that was put in that precious pot as we left the house. Sodas and aspirins are nowhere to be found, however lots of steal cut oatmeal and “7 grain” type cereals, veggies and fresh fruits are plenty, along with our trusty vitamin and supplements box. We drink reverse osmosis water, fruit juices, veggie juices, whole milk and our morning "vice", coffee! Our workout is sit-ups, push-ups, home exercises, walking and working in the yard. That’s about it!
